District 2: Steve Johnson
Growing up on a farm near Lafayette, Steve Johnson says he’s worked with UFC since he was a kid following his dad around on the farm. Today he’s excited to join the team as a DSM. “I’m eager to reconnect with my farm roots,” says Steve, a Winthrop High School graduate. “I understand the grassroots legacy of UFC. It’s amazing to see how they’ve grown. Growth helps ensure we can provide our farmers with the products they need, when they need them, and at competitive prices. I like the fact that UFC isn’t afraid to grow.”
Steve returned to the Winthrop area in 2004 with his wife, Koby. He says he wanted to be close to his mom, Bette, who still lives on his family’s farm, and raise his son in a rural community.
“We were anxious to get back to the area,” he says. “I wanted my son to have a similar experience I had growing up. I received a good education and liked growing up on the farm.”
Before joining the UFC team, Steve worked in corporate sales for AT&T. When the opportunity to work for UFC became available, he says he was ready to leave corporate America and work with farmers in rural America. “I know how to relate to farmers. The agriculture industry is where my heart is,” he says.
As a DSM, Steve looks forward to meeting UFC customers and working to help meet all your operation’s needs. “I want to be their first contact for anything their operation needs. I look forward to helping them improve their operations. Today’s producers demand better service, and they deserve it,” he says.
