United Farmers Cooperative to sell convenience stores to FillMeUp Group

WINTHROP, MINN. (May 1, 2019) – United Farmers Cooperative (UFC) announced today it has reached agreement to sell its seven United Xpress convenience stores to FillMeUp Group, which operates stores under the FillMeUp brand.

The transaction is expected to close on May 29, 2019. Included in the sale are United Xpress locations in Gaylord, Gibbon, Green Isle, Lafayette, New Auburn, New Germany and Winthrop. The current United Xpress employees will have the opportunity to transition to the FillMeUp Group, at the time of closing. The stores will be rebranded as FillMeUp and will continue to carry Cenex® brand fuels.

“The sale of these seven convenience stores is consistent with UFC’s need to focus long-term on our businesses,” said Scott Sinclair. “We look forward to working with the FillMeUp Group to achieve a seamless transition for the valued convenience store team members as they become employees of the new organization.”

FillMeUp Group President Ashvin Patel said the company’s leadership team is “very excited about acquiring the United Xpress convenience stores. We look forward to working with the teams on how best to untap the huge potential within each location, as well as building out strong relationships with the local communities.”

“We will also work with employees to ensure they have the right tools and resources to serve our customers in the best ways possible,” he said. “The FillMeUp Group will continue to build upon the great work that UFC has done within the community.”

Sinclair added that the cooperative will continue to supply its customers with refined fuels, propane and other energy products for agricultural, commercial and home use. UFC will retain the co-op’s fueling stations in LeSueur, Klossner and Brownton which will continue to use the current UFC Co-op Cash Card. A new FillMeUp loyalty card program will be introduced for the convenience store pumps.

With our extended weather forecast showing below normal temperatures across much of UFC’s territory we know growers may not be waiting for “ideal” planting conditions. We suggest utilizing 6-24-6 starter fertilizer to help corn and soybeans deal with cooler planting temperatures.
